Description
Olivier Coste “Illegal” Mourvèdre 2024
Nickname: The Rule Breaker
Enjoy it when:
For midweek dinners, chargrilled flavours or when you want a smooth red with a fun backstory.
Bottle Tale:
In the tiny appellation where these vines grow, producing 100% Mourvèdre is actually illegal — the rules require it to be blended. Olivier Coste made it anyway, labelled it Illégal and bottled it as Vin de France. A quiet rebellion, and a delicious one.
Picked early and fermented cool, the wine shows Mourvèdre’s friendly side: dark berries, violet lift and peppery spice without heaviness. Olivier’s aim is clarity, not rusticity — smooth tannins, juicy fruit, modern feel.
Let it linger:
Serve slightly cool. Lovely with grilled chicken, burgers, roasted veg, pizza or a cheese board.
